A DECLARATION OF MARRIAGE AT BIBLICAL LAW
We,_____________________________ and ______________________________________________________________________, in accordance with our faith in God, Who created us, And redeemed us by the blood of his Son, Jesus Christ, and sealed us as His own by the Holy Spirit; and gave us understanding of His will as it is written and preserved in the Holy Bible (King James Version): do herby testify, and give public notice of the covenant of marriage which we have entered into with each other in the presence of God and witnesses: based solely on the authority of God as found in His Holy word, The Bible.
In Mathew 19:4-6, the Lord Jesus taught, “Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh”? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God had joined together, let not men put asunder.” From this we determined that the first institutions established by God “at the beginning” of man’s existence are marriage and the family: with the bond between man and wife to be so revered as God’s doing, that it is outside the jurisdiction of even the couple themselves, or anyone else to legitimately “put asunder.”
In Ephesians 5:22-27, the Apostle Paul wrote, Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let wives be unto their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it: that he might sanctify and cleanse it…That he might present it to himself…holy and without blemish.” From this we determined that the authority of Christ over us, as members of his church is preeminent “in every thing”; and is sufficient to contract our marriage under, as it is to pattern our respective roles after.
As it is by faith in Christ that we are joined to the church, which is His body, His bride, to be one spirit with Him: so also it is by faith in Christ that we covenant to abide by the commandments of the Holy Bible in the establishing of this family; joined together by God to be one flesh, heirs together of the grace of life, holding all property in common, to the end that the word of God and the name of Christ may be glorified by the manifestation of His will in our marriage as long as we both shall live.
While we acknowledge that the prevailing public policy of both state and church corporations is to render jurisdiction over marriages exclusively to state licensure; it is our sincere and truly held personal religious conviction that, finding no such delegation of authority in the Holy Bible, we are precluded from following such a course, as it is written, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” Mark
The right to enter into this covenant of marriage, as well as subsequent property rights and parental rights to train, discipline, and educate our children according to the scriptures; are clearly protected by the First and Ninth Amendments of the Constitution of the United States of America as well as Article One, Section Four of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii, against the impositions of Legislature.
In presenting our testimony and public notice, we do hereby set the record of our status at law in good faith toward God, our parents, the church, the community at large, and the state; as it is written, “Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men,” And again it is written, Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge,” (Romans &18: Hebrews 13:14)
By the grace of God, and to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ do we present these facts openly. In accordance with Genesis 5:1&2, “God… called their name Adam”, so henceforth shall the wife bear her husband’s name.
